Connectrix DS-6630B 32G FC SAN Switch

Overview

The Connectrix DS-6630B is a 32 Gb/s Fibre Channel SAN switch with 128 ports: 96 standard SFP ports and eight QSFP ports that add a further 32 ports. All models operate at 4, 8, 16 or 32 Gb/s depending on the installed optic, and the switch is managed by Connectrix B-Series SANnav. It suits mid-size customers not yet ready to invest in a 4-slot director-class product, and large enterprises that need more edge ports without a director at the edge.

Port Configuration

• Form factor: 2U, installable in a standard 19-inch EIA rack
• Fibre Channel ports: DS-6630B and DS-6630B-V2: up to 128 ports, comprising 96 standard SFP 32Gb/s-capable ports and eight QSFP ports which support an additional 32 ports
• Ports on Demand: Base models with 24 active 32Gb/s or 16Gb/s ports populated with shortwave SFPs; a Ports on Demand licence activates 12 additional ports, and a QSFP Ports on Demand licence activates the four QSFP ports. The enterprise model fully populates the 48 SFP+ ports
• Detail: The DS-6630B has a total of 128 ports: 96 x 32Gb/s-capable SFP ports plus eight QSFP ports that add 32 more ports. It is aimed at mid-size customers who are not ready to invest in a 4-slot director-class product, and at large enterprises that need more ports at the edge of a SAN without a director-class product there. The V2 variant is nearly identical but requires FOS 9.0.0 or higher, supports 4Gb/s only on F-port connections to hosts and targets, and has no restrictions on topology or on encryption and compression
